Embroidery on paper is a technique in which holes are pierced in a card following a certain pattern, after which threads are drawn through to create a design.
Difficult?
Not at all, anyone who enjoys working with needle and thread can use this technique successfully. All the operations are described clearly and step by step for each pattern. The attractive aspect of this technique is that an original result can be achieved in a short time. You will be amazed at the effect achieved with the exquisite glossy threads, and the golden thread which enhances this effect.
General instructions
Necessities:

Embroidery piercingtool very fine, with needle “ERICA”
Embroidery piercingtool, coarse, with needle “ERICA”
Glue dispenser or photographic glue for sticking on lnlay sheet.
Book on Embroidery on Paper
Template
Piercing
Fold the card open and place it on the piercing cushion with the front side upwards. Make a photocopy of the pattern out of the book, or work with a template.Pierce through all holes carefully with the fine piercing tool. Hold the pen upright while doing this, so that clear holes are made. The holes through which several threads will pass are indicated with larger dots; make these slightly larger using the course piercing tool. If you make a mistake while piercing the holes, stick a small piece of adhesive tape over the incorrect holes at the back of the card; you can now pierce the holes again.
Embroidery
Work step by step following the method indicated; this is described for each pattern individually. Take a length of thread of about 70 cm. It is sometimes attractive to work with a double thread; in this case take a length of about 1.3 m. Pull it through the needle until a double thread is obtained. Insert the needle from behind at the starting point. Leave about 3 cm of thread hanging behind the card and stuck this in place firmly with a piece of adhesive tape away from the pattern. Do not stick it over the pierced holes! After embroidering, the loose end of thread is also fastened off with a piece of adhesive tape behind the card. Now follow the instructions for each pattern. Various embroidery stitches are used:
Flat stitch: this is a stitch from point to point.
Stem stitch: this is used for curved lines.
Working method for stem stitch: Insert from behind at 1, and go back down at 2. Go behind the card to 3, insert and go back down at 4. Go behind to 5, insert, and go back down at 6 etc. For small curves, only one hole is skipped.

Tip: pull the thread through the card gently , and not too quickly; this will avoid knots in the thread. If the thread becomes twisted (when working with a double thread), let it hang with the needle downwards, so that it can straighten out. If the thread (e.g. the gold thread) frays a lot, rub a little drop of photographic glue at the tip; this will dry almost immediately, and the thread will be compact from then on.
Finishing off
Stick the inlay sheet to the back of the embroidered card.
Wishing you many enjoyable hours !
